Name: B-17 'Flying Fortress'
Class: Atmospheric Bombers, generally converted for civilian use

Important Notes: An aging design, they were re-produced as cheap atmospheric craft on the original Frontier worlds.
B-17 being used to 'seed' a forest on Alpha.
The Flying Fortress rose again in 2056, when they were mass produced for war on the frontier worlds. They were rugged, extremely cheap to produce, and could be modified to perform any task. They are extremely useful bush-planes and cheap passenger transport. They are typically found on the outer rim, but some even operate on Pandora.
Over 780,000 were produced between 2056 and 2078. After the war, they became of extreme interest to the criminals of Frontier, who used them to haul and defend stolen cargo across the planet. Easy maintenance has led to mass numbers still surviving today. Some 800 were purchased last year by the UC to help start the 'Forest seeding process' on the new world of Alpha.
They are armed with six mounted machine guns to defend from aerial attacks. They can also drop bombs, or parachutists.
